Best time to post on Facebook

Three slots worth testing, what Facebook's ranking actually rewards, and why a table of hours is a hypothesis rather than an answer.

Three slots to start with

Wed10:00Mid-morning, the most reliable weekday block
Fri13:00End-of-week lunch, higher sharing behaviour
Sun12:00Weekend midday, the strongest consumer hour

These are in your audience's local time, which is the part most advice leaves out. If your audience is elsewhere, the calculator converts them into your own hours so you schedule the right instant.

What Facebook actually rewards

Facebook's feed heavily favours meaningful interactions — comments and shares between people, over passive reactions. Page reach is low and has been for years, so the hour matters less than whether the post gives someone a reason to reply.

Format matters more than the hour

Native video outperforms links by a wide margin. Photo posts still work for local businesses in a way they no longer do elsewhere. Anything that links off-platform is suppressed.

Worth knowing before you automate Facebook: Publishing is Pages only. Facebook does not permit posting to personal profiles through the API, for anyone — this is not a permissions level you can apply for.

How to test this properly

Facebook's audience skews older and more regionally clustered than the other networks here. Your Page Insights are unusually reliable for this reason; trust them over any general figure.

The method that works on every network: change one variable, hold everything else, and give it long enough that you are measuring the change rather than the noise. Two weeks on Facebook is usually enough.

Questions

Is organic Facebook reach worth chasing?

For local businesses and community Pages, yes. For broad brand content, organic Page reach has been declining for a decade and timing will not reverse it.

Does posting time matter?

Moderately. The feed is personalised and posts surface late, but the first hour still decides the size of the initial distribution.

Should I post links?

Not if reach matters. Native video and photos consistently outperform link posts. Put the link in a comment or in the caption text.

Can I post to my personal profile automatically?

No, and no tool can. Facebook does not expose publishing to personal profiles via API at all.
